  1. As an American myself, I'm always so relieved to hear an athlete represent my country with humility, gratitude, and respect for their opponent. That's who we can be.

  3. CHAMP.

Her mother – should be SO PROUD that she raised a girl like this. Supreme human being. Better than winning – is this type of attitude. INCREDIBLE. Brought me to tears, truly. Way to turn this around and bring attention to how a human being should behave and think. MASTER!

  4. Great courage by Amanda! Having lost her father & coach at a very young age, been crushed by expectations & turmoil as a teenager, taken a mental health break from tennis, & being by nature a sensitive & vulnerable person, she played the great, formidable & very experienced Iga, was overwhelmed by the pressure & occasion, & suffered a devastating loss! It takes great fortitude & character to come back onto court & face the crowd despite the heartbreak, show grace & respect to Iga, such love & gratitude to her family, & be positive & thankful that she reached the Wimbledon final so soon after returning to tennis. No wonder the crowd love her, & I sincerely hope she takes the positives & lessons from her Wimbledon experience, bounces back & continues to rebuild her career, as she's a great talent & a lovely young lady!

  5. Classy.
Venus Williams HAD similar CLASS. Gracious in a loss.
Serena Williams had zero class after losses. She gave zero credit to her opponents. She made excuses for losing…injuries, feeling ill, wind…anything to avoid admitting that her opponent was better that day. She always said she gave away the match versus her opponent winning. Pathetic.

  6. Amanda hit this speech out of the court. Also, just imagine her situation and then having to speak, and clearly, in front of this audience right after losing—a form of torture. She has absolute nerves of steel!

  7. She should be proud of herself. Everybody loves a comeback. She is an inspiration more than she knows. Resilience to comeback from almost being retired & lowest point of her life to getting in one of the biggest title matches in her sport. Very admirable.

  8. Fulfillment is not with wins, trophies, and money. I think this girl gets it, frankly. Look what happened to Iga when she wasn’t winning. Her world was caving in. Her entire world is tennis, success on the court, exceeding hers and others expectations, and winning championships. There’s more to life. I hope AA wins a Wimbledon someday. If not? I think she’ll be ok with that.

  9. Double bageled at the highest level and she gives one of the best 2nd place speeches of all time. A true example of a good sport.

  10. I feel for Amanda. But this result is a disaster for women's tennis. NOT her fault, obviously. She gave it her all and she's obviously a fine athlete and person. The fact remains that people will not pay to watch "cake walks". Women's tennis (like several other women's sports, e.g., soccer, ice hockey, etc.) have to somehow get more competitive with much deeper fields of talented players (and teams). This also answers the question about why women pros often don't earn as much as the men: The product is entertaining, but not AS entertaining. So revenues are smaller. Simple math, really.

  11. What I admire about American culture is the fact that they know how to love themselves and at the same time are able to be gracious to their opponent. Amanda however is even a bigger reflection of that with a beautiful heart she has.
