Unless your patient has a PFO (hole in heart that isn’t supposed to be there) or is extremely small (think small rodents), a couple of air bubbles will be okay. It takes a LOT of air to cause problems. Like 50-100mL. So anyone who is afraid of air in their line, you’ll be fine. -Someone who has a weird heart and gets infusions daily that often have scary amounts of air into their central line with no problems
I had so many vein blowouts… I've been told my skin is thick. I once had SIX attempts and the last was only successful with a pediatric needle. They literally couldn't stop going all the whole through my vein. My arms looked worse than when I was a using addict.
Ive got ehlers danlos im very hard to get blood out of and get things into, one time getting an iv i watched as my vein curved and impailed itself on the needle on the ultrasound one time that was the 4th try by a second er nurse both inner elbows looked like i had tennis balls under the skin for three weeks 😭. Went to my primary dr the other day they wanted to just do bloodwork so my regular pa tried on both arms and sounded so bummed out he missed it again i felt so bad i always try and prep them everytime telling them it usually takes a few tries but they still end up shocked and apologetic by how difficult it is i always feel so bad cause its not their fault at all. The lady after him did get some blood out of my hand but not enough so she had to re do my arm i usually walk out looking like an old pin cusion lmao.
This may not mean much to most but as someone who's finally started pursueing vet med (and has a fear of sticking lol), these shorts/videos have given me so much more insight! Thank you !
